Garry Arnold Garry Arnold has a wide involvement in the information systems industry in a variety of technical, management and consulting roles, since 1979. Garry has experience in project and staff management, systems programming and local and wide area networks. He has specific focus on the design of high technology, real-time information processing and network environments. Garry's consultancy and training experience includes lecturing on telecommunications and network operation throughout Australia and New Zealand and the development and presentation of a variety of public courses. He has also presented customised courses for a number of organisations such as the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Fujitsu Australia Ltd, IBM, Optus, Telstra, Westpac and AMP Society, to name a few. Garry's combination of technical expertise, communication skills and knowledge ensures that his courses are a lively and relevant contribution to delegates' professional training. |

Alex Milne Having over thirty years experience within the Information Technology Industry Alex is well positioned to share with delegates a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Alex has held leading technical roles with organisations such as Honeywell, Bull Information Systems, Wang and Getronics. His career commenced with site responsibility and support for major mainframe accounts based in South Australia and interstate. At national networking support roles he has successfully completed projects for such clients as Telecom ITG and 3Com. Alex has developed and delivered training on complex networks including networking courses such as Ethernet, Token Ring, TCP/IP and Cisco CCNA accreditation. Alex continues to keep abreast of developing technologies and hardware by consulting in various major projects including, but not limited to, the design and audit of national networks, implementation of Microsoft NT Server, Exchange and Proxy Server, network protocol analysis and problem definition and Cisco router network configuration and deployment. Peter Mottlee Peter Mottlee has solid commercial and organisational experience in various management guises - business caretaker, project management and training. Chris Welsh Chris has combined an extensive teaching career with over 15 years working in the computer industry to become a specialist networking systems instructor. He has high academic and industry qualifications and a teaching style that makes him popular with students. Chris was introduced to the networking side of computing while working at the NSW Department of School Education during the design and implementation of an office automation system for over 2000 NSW schools in 1988-1990. He then moved on to become involved with the design, implementation and management of Token Ring LANs within the departments corporate structure. Chris then moved to TAFE as a trainer and then to Cabletron Systems as their Technical Engineering Trainer. In 1997 Chris formed his own network consultancy. Chris is certified to teach Cisco courses as well as Enterasys (Cabletron) courses. Chris qualifications include a Masters in Computing from Western Sydney University, Enterasys Certified Engineer and certified Cisco instructor. He has worked internationally in the US, NZ, PNG, UK, Japan, China, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Back to top |

. Phil Kernick Phil is an Information Technology Professional who has actively been involved in the IT arena for over sixteen years. He specialises in IT security and training. Phil has gained three academic degrees; Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic), Bachelor of Science (Mathematics & Computer Science) and Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) first class honours. He is a Cisco Certified Security Professional and Sun Certified System Administrator and is the President of SAGE-AU. Phil has managed many training projects both locally and internationally which include: set-up and management of a training facility in Malaysia; delivery of a customised training course to the US Navy; and delivery of Sun Microsystems Solaris training. Phil is currently Technical Director of CQR Consulting where key aspects of his role include secure network design and implementation, application reviews, security and policy, technical security reviews and vulnerability assessments. Matt Geddes Matthew Geddes spent five years customising heterogeneous network solutions for schools and small businesses, and then moved on to Tellurian in Adelaide, development and support consultants for most operating systems. At Tellurian Matt works in a mix of roles, including support of server operating systems, databases and applications, system administration and development. Tellurian's customers include National Credit Insurance, Optus, Compaq and IBM GSA. Matt has experience with various flavours of open source unix, such as Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and various flavours of commercial unix, including Solaris, SCO Unix and Digital Unix. Matt also has a great deal of Windows NT experience and has concentrated on Unix-Windows interoperability through projects such as Samba. Matt was closely involved in the development of Samba's domain control facilities and helped move them towards production status. Matt's interest in authentication has lead him to become an expert in Samba and LDAP integration, and he has contributed to Samba in both this area and in technical documentation. Bernie Generoso Bernie has over 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry. He is a registered assessor for IT&T ITAB and has a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace training. Bernie’s technical experience includes Siemens, Alcatel, Toshiba, Fujitsu systems, long haul submarine cables, synchronous digital hierarchy, install of satellite communications and telephone exchange equipment, which was gained whilst working for the Overseas Telecomms Commission and Telstra Corporation. In this regards he has developed and delivered a range of courses for both the national and international telecommunications industry including ACA training courses within the IT&T ITAB framework. |

Glenn Satchell Glenn's experience with computers started in 1977. An interest in electronics and computers became a career in 1988 when he started working with Unix. Glenn spent two years providing Second Level support at Sun Microsystems before leaving to form a consulting company. He survived a merger and dot-com public listing, then left to start again. He has provided consulting services to literally hundreds of companies over the years, including large multinationals, well known Australian companies, State and Federal Governments, and many small to medium enterprises. He has over 15 years professional experience working with Solaris and SunOS, and more recently with Linux. His specialities include Advanced System Administration, High Availability, System Tuning and Performance Analysis, Training, and Security. Glenn holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from the NSW Institute of Technology (now known as the University of Technology). Back to top |

Peter Bestel Peter Bestel has 16 years of computer industry experience in Sydney and California. He has worked in consulting, teaching, system and network administration and development roles over this time, recently spending 5 years as an architect and consultant to VERITAS software in Mountain View, California. Specialising in databases, data centres and Solaris, Peter has also worked extensively with storage systems and SANs, on security and performance analysis and with major systems using Linux, HP-UX, BSD and Apple Unix flavours. He has provided teaching services internally and to customers for VERITAS Software and Sun Microsystems, and run tutorials at UTS, Sydney.
